Michael A. Baker, an American former NASA astronaut, was selected for the astronaut program in 1985, officially became an astronaut in 1986, and stayed with NASA until his retirement in 2008.
Orbital Milestones
During his spaceflight career, Michael A. Baker participated in 4 space shuttle missions: twice as Pilot and twice as Mission Commander – accumulating a total of 965 hours in space.
A historic mission
One of Mr. Baker’s prominent missions was STS-81, a flight to the Russian Mir space station, contributing to the promotion of international cooperation in space exploration and laying the foundation for today’s International Space Station (ISS).
